Rabat, Sep. 3 - Rajae Belmlih, one of Morocco's and Arab top singers, passed away Sunday at the age of 45 after a long battle with cancer that lasted for about four years.
The deceased checked into hospital after her health condition had deteriorated. The funeral will take place on Monday at midday's prayer in Casablanca.
King Mohammed VI addressed a condolence message to the late singer's family expressing "profound affliction and deep emotions following her death."
"Morocco has lost one of its most talented artists known for her authenticity and moral values [...] and whose memory will remain within all Moroccans and the Arab world," the monarch said.
Late Rajae Belmlih was first introduced to the public through an 80's talent show "Mawahib." Her fist hit "Ya-Jara Wadina", marked the beginning a successful career resumed later from Cairo where the singer chose to settle in.
With successful albums like "Sabri Alik Tal", "Ya Rhayeb", "Ietiraf", Belmlih consolidated her ground as a singer in the Arab scene.
Besides the numerous awards she won for her successful singing career, she was named as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador in 1999 for her artistic and humanitarian contributions.
The late singer was married and had a 5-year-old son
