Turkey claims to be the only secular country in the Eurasia region with a 99 percent Muslim majority. What are the benefits, costs and risks associated with the Turkish way of secularism? How does the Turkish formula effect gender issues, politics, state-civil society relations and economy? Can Turkey offer an alternative answer for a secular system with a tolerant society for the rest of the world? France, like other European nations allows the wearing of the headscarf in universities. To reinforce secularism in 2004, France banned the wearing of overt religious symbols in state-run primary and secondary schools. That ban also applies in Alsace-Moselle, even though, for historic reasons, the region escaped a 1905 law separating the church and the state.

Allama Delwar Hossain Sayeedi is one of the most prominent religious telepreachers in Bangladesh. A very prominent Bangladeshi Islamic personality and politician, a former Member of Parliament and one of the most prominent leaders of the Islamic Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh.
Here is a brief summary of the lecture:
"Satan has mandated conventions exactly the opposite of what Allah has mandated. For example, Allah has sent the Quran and Sunnah as a complete code of life which includes code of conduct from personal life to governing the state. But as a counter, Satan has created Secularism....
Then he went on giving definition of secularism from different sources (in English).
Then he summarized the definitions of secularism as (1), separation of religion from state and politics,
(2), religion will be confined only to personal matters, (3), religion mandated regulations cannot be considered in state affairs, (4), in the Islamic world secularism should be implemented in such a way that it will only be useful in personal matters, (5), secularism requires separating society, economy and state completely from Islam.
Afterwards he said secularism is poisonous and is a curse for mankind as it confines Islam only to personal life separating it completely from state affairs. Secularism is a man-made ideology that negates the ideology of Allah and therefore is a Kufr."
Islam is the only code of life revealed by Allah, The Lord of the Universe. This code of life encompasses the whole gamut of human life. It does not only prescribe beliefs but also the norms of behaviour. Its guidance covers all spheres of human activities, both spiritual and material. Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh upholds Islam in its entirety, and aims at bringing about a revolution. It is opposed to all forms of violence. It aims at channelling the thoughts of the people to the right direction first. Then people of similar thinking have to be organised and trained up as able leaders and efficient workers of the Islamic movement. Emphasizing that the good life is achievable by everyone, Kurtz has coined the term "eupraxsophy," based on Greek roots and meaning "good conduct and wisdom in living." By using critical thinking, he shows how wisdom can be applied to a life of commitment and passion. Regarding the perennial search for happiness, Kurtz affirms that secularism holds great promise. Through creative action in the pursuit of goals focused on the enhancement of human welfare, each person has the best chance of realizing a meaningful life of joyful exuberance. Kurtz will show how this realistic and fulfilling life stance is expressed in various human endeavors: achieving excellence; joyful exuberance; eroticism; being a good parent; loving another person; a good marriage or civil union; finding meaning in life; striving for a beloved cause; facing death with courage; and creating a planetary community.
Paul Kurtz is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the State University of New York at Buffalo, chairman of the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP), the Council for Secular Humanism, and Prometheus Books, and editor-in-chief of Free Inquiry Magazine. He is also founder and chairman of the Center for Inquiry, Transnational. He is a former Co-President of the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU). BA, New York University; MA and PhD, Columbia University. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Humanist Laureate and President of the International Academy of Humanism. He is the author or editor of 45 books and over 800 articles and reviews. He has appeared on many major TV and radio programs in North America and worldwide.
